Crashes: A Growing Problem
and a Couple of Ideas to Make the Sport a Bit Safer
Motocross racing is a rough sport. Not only is it very exciting
but also is also dangerous at the same time. As those involved
in the sport know very well, motocross crashes can lead to severe
injuries and can even be fatal. The tracks are dangerous due to
the high jumps involved.
Some
of the old-timers in this sport believe that new events such as
Supercross and the media have made the sport too dangerous for
beginners. In order to attract larger crowds and more coverage,
necessary precautions are being ignored, leading to higher and
higher numbers of motocross crashes.
One of the best examples of this would be the most recent addition
to this sport - SuperMoto X Games. This is a fusion of supercross,
dirt track racing, freestyle motocross and road racing. It is
extremely dangerous and requires riders to be highly skilful.
A slight mistake can lead to a big crash. The aim of this event
is to make an impact on international sports and is one of the
most extreme forms of motorcycle racing.
The
reason why motocross crashes are becoming more and more common
nowadays is due to the kind of tracks that are being developed.
Tracks are being made with the view of making them as spectacular
as possible. Promoters are not concerned whether it is a race
for amateurs or experts. They just want to popularize the sport
amongst people.
In
several countries, governments have started viewing motocross
racing with concern. People such as journalists, track owners,
riders and parents, marketing companies should all start thinking
about the reasons why motocross crashes are on a rise in recent
times. It is most important for riders to take a step in this
direction since it is their life that is at stake here.
A
large amount of injuries take place in long whoops. Most of these
take place at the end of a whoop. By developing proper regulation
on the correct length of a whoop, this problem can easily be addressed.
By making tracks safer and better, not only would there be more
participants, but the race would also get more exciting to watch.
Another
matter for concern is young flaggers on a motocross track. These
twelve-year-old kids really do not know what to do, and riders
land on a fallen rider causing severe injury to each other. Employing
flaggers who are at least eighteen years of age would largely
help to reduce motocross crashes as well.
Thus,
avoiding more crashes will help everyone in this sport. Injured
riders do not earn money, only safe and sound ones do.
What do YOU think? Any other ideas that can help. I love
the sport and making it safer will definitely make it better and
more attractive for everybody. Get in contact
and send your comments. I will publish them in this same page.
